FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) The New York Jets have signed former Giants offensive lineman James Brewer to a one-year contract.

The 6-foot-6, 330-pound Brewer signed Thursday, a day after visiting with the Jets. He was a fourth-round draft pick by the Giants out of Indiana in 2011.

Brewer played in 26 career games, including eight starts, with the Giants. He was inactive for the Giants' first 10 games last season before playing in Weeks 12 and 13 - his only game action.

He can play guard and offensive tackle, making him a versatile backup for the Jets, who have added offensive lineman James Carpenter in free agency and re-signed guard Willie Colon.
