Bengals end draft with ball-hawking safety, receiver

CINCINNATI (AP) Ball-hawking Fresno State safety Derron Smith and high-scoring West Virginia wide receiver Mario Alford are the Bengals final two draft picks of 2015.

The 5-10, 200-pound Smith, picked in the sixth round Saturday, was first-team All-Mountain West Conference each of the last three seasons and ended his career with 15 interceptions. He finished second on the team with 93 tackles in 2014 and racked up 259 in his career.

Cincinnati closed out the draft by choosing Alford with the 21st pick in the seventh round and the 238th overall selection. The 5-8, 180-pound Alford led the Big 12 with 11 touchdown receptions while logging 65 catches for 945 yards.

Smith and Alford were the Bengals' fourth and fifth picks on Saturday, joining USC cornerback Josh Shaw, Arizona State defensive end Marcus Hardison and Auburn tight end C.J. Uzomah.
