With the NFL draft over and free agency winding down, the NFL rumor mill is abuzz. Many teams begin their organized team activities this week and several big-name players are skipping the workouts while they negotiate new contracts. The workouts also give teams a chance to see their draft picks and new signings compete against established veterans. The free agents who have yet to sign contracts could end up with new homes soon as the start of training camp looms.

• New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said there will be a competition at quarterback despite offensive coordinator Chan Gailey previously saying Geno Smith was the starter. Bowles says Smith will get first-team reps, while Ryan Fitzpatrick is second-string and Matt Simms is third. Rookie Bryce Petty will get reps throughout camp.

• New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz says his knee is now at 80 percent. Cruz missed the last 10 games of last season after tearing the patellar tendon in his right knee.

• Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is "not going to play anywhere else" this season, team coach Mike Zimmer said.

Bears chairman George McCaskey tried to explain the team's signing of Ray McDonald on Wednesday. He said he thought the team had "safeguards in place."

Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown doesn't plan on skipping off-season workouts or holding out during training camp, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
