New York Giants punter Steve Weatherford walked away uninjured after being involved in an early morning car accident in New Jersey on the way to practice.

Weatherford posted several photos on Instagram detailing how he was trying to make his way back to the East Coast after welcoming a newborn daughter in San Diego.

Weatherford said that he was trying to fly to Newark but all flights were canceled because of severe weather in the area and that his flight was rerouted to Washington, D.C.

He rented a car for the drive north and around 3:30 a.m. the vehicle hit water and slammed into a median on the New Jersey Turnpike, totaling the rental car. He says the New Jersey State Police gave him a ride back to Hoboken, a 30-minute trip to the team’s facility in East Rutherford.

“Now I'm home shaking like a leaf, trying to pack my bag to go to practice. I'm so thankful to even be walking right now.” Weatherford said.

Weatherford later tweeted a picture after arriving at the Giants practice facility.

Weatherford, who has been with the Giants since 2011, thanked the officers for giving him a ride.

“These guys didn't do it because they were football fans, they didn't even know who I was or what I do,” Weatherford said. “I'm super proud to have always been a supporter of the NY/NJ Police and Fire Departments.”
