Redskins sign NT Jerrell Powe, formerly with Chiefs, Texans

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) Free-agent nose tackle Jerrell Powe and offensive lineman Willie Smith have signed with the Washington Redskins.

The team announced the deals Tuesday. Washington also waived tackle Tovar Allen.

Powe has played in 28 games, making four starts, with the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans over the past four seasons.

He was drafted in the sixth round in 2011 by the Chiefs, and played three seasons for them. Powe was with the Texans last season, appearing in 16 games with three starts.

He's the latest addition this offseason to a rebuilt Redskins defensive line.

This is the 6-5, 310-pound Smith's second stint with Washington, which signed him as a college free agent in 2011.

He has played in 29 games, including 11 starts, with the Redskins, Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers.

Last season, he made one start for the Chargers.
