The ex-fiancee of former San Francisco 49ers defensive end Ray McDonald says in a court filing that he repeatedly attacked her over the course of several months, the San Jose Mercury News reports.

According to a restraining order—a copy of which was obtained by the newspaper—the unidentified 27-year-old woman says shortly after the couple got engaged in February 2014, McDonald exhibited a pattern of "verbal abuse and controlling behavior,” once choking her and putting his knee to her stomach while she was pregnant.

That incident led to McDonald’s arrest on Aug. 31, but he was not charged with any crime.

The woman says that over time the "pushing and shoving" turned into "full attacks that happened frequently.”

Bears should be held accountable for signing Ray McDonald in first place

McDonald, 30, signed with the Chicago Bears in March on a one-year contract after being cut by the 49ers in December following what the team called a "pattern of behavior" after authorities announced McDonald was being investigated for possible sexual assault charges.

McDonald was arrested May 25 at a San Jose home for misdemeanor domestic violence and child endangerment, accused of physically assaulting the woman while she was holding the couple’s baby. The Bears released him later that day, and the case remains under investigation.

He was arrested again two days later for violating an emergency protective order by returning to the woman’s apartment. He posted a total of $20,000 bail for both incidents and was released each time.
