The Dallas Cowboys released running back Ryan Williams, linebacker Cameron Lawrence and offensive lineman Ryan Miller on Tuesday, reports ESPN's Todd Archer.

The team also signed running back Gus Johnson, linebacker Justin Anderson and offensive lineman Ronald Patrick, Archer reports.

Williams was possibly the most notable cut. He set multiple ACC rushing records while at Virginia Tech, but has not played in an NFL game since 2012 when he played in five games for the Arizona Cardinals. He signed a two-year contract with the Cowboys in January.

Williams, 25, was selected by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2011 draft, but his professional career has been plagued by injuries. He missed the 2011 season with a ruptured patella tendon, most of the 2012 and all of the 2013 season after a shoulder injury, and could now miss the 2015 season after a knee injury. He underwent his second knee surgery after minicamp in June.

Lawrence played in 27 games with 18 tackles over two seasons in Dallas. Miller last played in 2012, appearing in eight games for the Browns.

The Cowboys have their first preseason practice on Thursday.
