Monday July 27th, 2015

The Cleveland Browns start training camp on July 30. Camp breaks on Aug. 24, but the last practice open to the public is on Aug. 15.

The Browns are hoping to recover from a 2014 season that went from promising to disastrous very quickly. Cleveland started last year 6-3, but went 1-6 in their last seven games, including a five-game losing streak to finish the season. Cleveland's inconsistency was represented at the quarterback position, where the team bounced back and forth between Brian Hoyer and Johnny Manziel at the end of the year.

Cleveland tried to address issues on the offensive side of the ball by adding more established skill position players, including veteran receivers Dwyane Bowe and Brian Hartline. Quarterback Josh McCown, who played well in 2013 with Chicago but struggled with Tampa Bay last season, appears to be the frontrunner ahead of Manziel for the starting job.

On defense, the Browns are hoping to shore up their run defense with the additions of Randy Starks and Danny Shelton—a 2015 draft pick—along the defensive line. Cleveland also signed former Packers cornerback Tramon Williams to play opposite Joe Haden. It will be up to coach Mike Pettine, entering his second full year in the job, to make sure all the new pieces fit and re-capture the success the Browns enjoyed early last season.
