Report: Jets fear safety Antonio Allen has torn Achilles
The New York Jets fear that safety Antonio Allen tore his Achilles tendon and will wait for official results from an MRI on Friday, the New York Daily Newsreports.
According to the report, Allen was injured on the final play of Thursday’s training camp practice as he was coming out of his stance. It was a non-contract injury on the grass practice field and Allen was helped off the field by team trainers.
Jets head coach Todd Bowles confirmed Allen has an Achilles injury, but did not reveal an exact diagnosis.
Allen, 26, was the team’s seventh round pick in the 2012 NFL draft and has appeared in 38 games during his three NFL seasons, making 18 starts.
Last season, Allen had 41 total tackles, with six pass defenses and one forced fumble, while making eight starts. Allen is entering the final year of his contract and is set to make $1.5 million this season.
The Jets open their preseason against the Detroit Lions on Aug. 13 and start the regular season at home on Sept. 13 against the Cleveland Browns.
