Baltimore Ravens defensive end Brent Urban will be out 12-14 weeks after tearing his biceps on Thursday, the team announced.

The Ravens announced Urban will have surgery, and the timetable leaves open the possibility of a late-season return.

Urban, a 2014 fourth-round pick from the University of Virginia, tore his ACL in training camp last year and missed the entire season. Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sunreported that Urban could be lost for the year, as the team will have to consider placing him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Ravens can also place Urban on injured reserve with designation to return. In that case, Urban would only have to sit out the first eight weeks of the regular season. The team can only designate one player per season to return from IR.

Matt Elam, the Ravens’ starting strong safety, also tore his biceps and appears a more likely candidate for the return designation than Urban given his value to the team.
