Jets Preview Capsule

NEW YORK JETS (4-12)

New Faces: GM Mike Maccagnan, coach Todd Bowles, offensive coordinator Chan Gailey, defensive coordinator Kacy Rodgers, special teams coordinator Bobby April, CBs Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie and Buster Skrine, WR Brandon Marshall, QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, LG James Carpenter, RBs Zac Stacy and Stevan Ridley, S Marcus Gilchrist, rookies DL Leonard Williams, WR Devin Smith, LB Lorenzo Mauldin and QB Bryce Petty.

Strengths: DL, CB, WR, K.

Weaknesses: QB, TE, G.

What's New: After being weak link last season, cornerbacks are sudden strength led by Revis, who's back after two years away. Cromartie also returns after season in Bowles' defense in Arizona. Gailey was high on progress of QB Geno Smith, who'll be sidelined at least a few games into season after having jaw broken by then-teammate IK Enemkpali. Offense now in hands of well-traveled vet Fitzpatrick, who ran Gailey's offense for three years in Buffalo. Marshall, acquired in March from Chicago, gives Jets No. 1-type receiver to complement Eric Decker.

Fantasy Tip: RB Chris Ivory appears to be improved as pass catcher this summer and could get bulk of work out of backfield, making him potential solid backup on fantasy roster. While Marshall might not hit 100 catches, he'll be popular target in red zone for Jets and could put up good TD numbers.

Expectations: Defense still Jets' strength under Bowles, despite DL Sheldon Richardson missing at least first four games for violating NFL's substance abuse policy. Team's success will likely ride on play of quarterback - whoever it is. Jets need Fitzpatrick to be at least solid until Smith comes back. Even then, Bowles has said Smith's not assured of getting job back if Fitzpatrick's playing well and Jets are winning.
