New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz and linebacker Jon Beason are out for Sunday’s season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, the team announced on Friday.

Cruz will be sidelined by a pulled calf muscle in his left leg. Beason is out because of a sprained left knee.

Cruz was limited in training camp after coming back from his second knee surgery in two years and hadn’t practiced since Aug. 17 due to the calf injury. He played in just six games in 2014 before undergoing surgery on a torn patella tendon.

Beason sprained his knee in a preseason game on Aug. 22 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He missed the final two preseason games, but returned to practice on Wednesday before being held out on Thursday and Friday because of soreness.

Remaining on the depth chart at middle linebacker are Mark Herzlich, Uani Unga and Jasper Brinkley, while wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr., Rueben Randle, Preston Parker, Dwayne Harris and Jeremy Davis remain healthy for New York.

Cruz is a 2012 Pro Bowler, and Beason is a three-time first-team All-Pro selection.
