Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Texans, the team announced on Saturday.

Kuechly left the Panthers’ season-opening win over the Jaguars after sustaining a concussion and did not return.

He was listed as doubtful on Friday’s injury report before the team made the official decision to hold him out of its Week 2 contest.

A.J. Klein will fill the void left by Kuechly at middle linebacker. He replaced Kuechly in Week 1 and helped the team secure a 20–9 victory over the Jaguars.

Kuechly was the NFC Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and has made two Pro Bowls since Carolina selected him in the first round of 2012’s draft.
