NFL rumors: Latest news entering Week 3 on injuries, free agency, more

See the latest news and rumors around the NFL heading into Week 3.

Week 3 kicked off Thursday night with the New York Giants getting their first win of the season with a 32–21 victory over the Washington Redskins. Eli Manning threw for 279 yards and two touchdowns as the Giants were able to hold a fourth quarter lead after squandering games in the first two weeks.

The Redskins move to 1–2 as well, and even though quarterback Kirk Cousins threw two interceptions, coach Jay Gruden said, “There is no quarterback controversy whatsoever.”

Saints quarterback Drew Brees remains uncertain for Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Brees has a bruised rotator cuff, but said he is “pretty confident” he would be able to play.

Bills head coach Rex Ryan told ESPN that he’s not going to be as animated on the sideline going forward after he was flagged for an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in Week 2.

Packers running back Eddie Lacymissed practice again Thursday, but coach Mike McCarthy said he would feel comfortable giving the running back limited practice reps in the days leading up to the game, with the expectation that he plays Monday night against the Chiefs.  

• Philadelphia Eagles coach Chip Kelly said running back DeMarco Murray was being held out of practice again on Thursday for evaluations on his injured hamstring and he didn't know if Murray would play Sunday. 

Raiders DE Justin Tuck, who missed practice on Wednesday with a knee injury, returned to the field on Thursday, where he was a full participant in practice without pads.
