Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman arrested for felony hit-and-run
Seattle Seahawks fullback Derrick Coleman was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with felony hit-and-run and vehicular assault, records from the King County jail show.
As of noon eastern time, the records show that Coleman has been denied bail and is currently being held in jail.
Coleman is the first legally deaf player in NFL history. He lost his hearing when he was three years old and uses hearing aids. In the huddle, he reads Russell Wilson’s lips as he calls the plays.
Coleman is used primarily as a blocker, with only three carries and 11 receptions in his four-year NFL career. He has played 20.2% of Seattle’s offensive snaps this season and 69.2% of the snaps on special teams.
The Seahawks are one of only a few NFL teams to carry two fullbacks on their roster. Converted defensive lineman Will Tukuafu is Coleman’s backup.
