Giants defensive end Robert Ayers left Sunday’s game against the Cowboys to be evaluated for a potential concussion, the team announced.

Ayers’ injury came in the third quarter and left the Giants with just two available defensive ends (George Selvie and Kerry Wynn). In addition to Ayers, rookie defensive end Owa Odighizuwa left with a hamstring injury. Damontre Mooreis inactive for the game.

Ayers is the Giants’ starter at right defensive end and missed the last four games with an ankle injury. He had one sack and five tackles in the first two games of the season.

The NFL’s concussion protocol requires a player to be cleared by a neurologist before returning to the field.
