Chicago Bears rookie running back Jeremy Langford will start in place of injured Matt Forte on Monday Night Football against the San Diego Chargers, reports NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.

Langford, who filled in for Forte after he was injured on Sunday, carried the ball 12 times for 46 yards in Chicago’s 23–20 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. He has 27 carries for 80 yards and two touchdowns in seven games played this season.

Forte, 29, sustained a knee injury in the third quarter on Sunday after taking a hit from Vikings safety Harrison Smith. The running back was able to walk off the field on his own, but headed straight to the locker room and did not return to the game.

Forte had 10 carries for 41 yards and caught four receptions for 28 yards before exiting the game.

Bears head coach John Fox said Monday that he didn’t expect Forte to need surgery on his knee, and that though the injury was still being evaluated, he didn’t believe it to be season-ending.

The Bears (2–5) will travel to San Diego to face the Chargers (2–6) on Monday night.
