Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy announced on Wednesday that James Starks, not Eddie Lacy, will be the team's primary option at running back entering this Sunday.

“I would say James is our No. 1 back right now,” McCarthy said. “He's played well and deserves that opportunity. Still will use a 1-2 punch with Eddie Lacy.”

Lacy suffered a groin injury in Sunday's loss to the Carolina Panthers but is not expected to miss any time, and he practiced with the team regularly on Monday. His fumble in the second half of the game extended his turnover streak to three games. In the last four games, Lacy has totaled just 78 yards rushing on 33 carries.

Starks is coming off a game in which he carried the ball 10 times for 39 yards and caught six passes for 83 yards and a touchdown. He has rushed for 334 yards on 78 carries this season.

The Packers will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they face the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on Sunday.
