Carolina Panthers defensive end Jared Allen has been ruled out for Sunday’s playoff game against the Arizona Cardinals with a foot injury, head coach Ron Rivera announced Friday.

Allen, 33, practiced Thursday but was limited. The team decided to hold him out after he injured his right foot last week against Seattle, an ailment he played through in the fourth quarter.

Allen told reporters he was “not happy” with the decision and that he feels ready to play. “Coach’s decision, gotta live with it.” He added that he felt he could be effective were he to play against Arizona.

The veteran defensive end recorded two sacks in 12 games with Carolina this season after beginning the season with Chicago.

The Panthers face the Cardinals on Sunday night for the NFC title.
