Police investigating altercation between Johnny Manziel, ex-girlfriend
Johnny Manziel was involved in a dispute with his ex-girlfriend early Saturday morning that later involved Fort Worth police, who are still working to determine whether a criminal offense occurred.
Manziel has not been arrested. NBC Sports anchor David Watkins, based in Dallas/Fort Worth, first reported that local police were called to get information over an incident between Manziel and his girlfriend.
According to a police press release, patrol officers were dispatched to a Fort Worth apartment building with regard to a report of a possible assault. Officers did not locate the caller but spoke with a 23-year-old female who said that she was involved in “a disturbance” with her ex-boyfriend, Manziel, earlier that night in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation “determined that a possible assault had occurred,” but “the complainant was uncooperative with oficers on scene,” according to the release, and the officers could not locate a crime scene, but prepared a report.
Additonally, the woman told police that she had concerns “regarding the well-being” of Manziel. Police determined later that he was safe.
Manziel was involved in another altercation with then-girlfriend Colleen Crowley in October, after an argument began on a highway in northeast Ohio and continued closer to Manziel’s home. Manziel told police he had been drinking that afternoon. He was not charged with a crime, and the NFL did not discipline him after an investigation.
It is unclear whether Crowley was the woman involved in Saturday’s incident.
Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports the NFL will look into the matter.
