Broncos defenders criticize Cam Newton’s effort after Super Bowl
Two Denver Broncos defenders criticized Cam Newton’s effort after Super Bowl 50.
Denver won the game 24–10, forcing Newton and the Panthers into four turnovers on offense. Danny Trevathan and Aqib Talib both called into question Newton’s effort, appearing to reference a play where Newton held up instead of attempting to recover a fumble.
“That’s the way he is. Playing for himself,” Trevathan said.
“He didn’t want it,” Talib added.

Broncos safety T.J. Ward, who intercepted Newton in the third quarter, also criticized Newton and the Panthers for their usually dramatic presentations on the field.
“We don’t have to say nothing. We let them do all the talking. We let our pads talk. We talk with our helmets and our shoulder pads,” Ward said, according to USA Today. “They could do all the media talking, you know what I’m talking about? We’re not about that flashy stuff. We’re about that grind, putting in that work. Grind it. Work. That’s how you get the ‘ship. They want to be famous. We want to be champions. They want to be rappers and backup dancers. We want to play football.”
Ward said Newton was pouting after the loss, and cornerback Chris Harris pointed to the absence of Newton’s trademark on-field dancing.
“Did you guys see him dance today? He [saw] us dance,” Harris said.
Denver’s win gave them their third Super Bowl title in franchise history. Von Miller won Super Bowl MVP.
