New York Giants tight end Larry Donnell has been cleared to return to football by his doctors, according to his agent Tamika Cheatham. Donnell needs to be cleared by the Giants’ doctors before he can resume playing, though.

Donnell sustained a season-ending neck injury during the Giants Week 8 game against the New Orleans Saints. General manger Jerry Reese said last month that the injury could be career-threatening.

The Giants tendered Donnell as a restricted free agent last week despite concerns about his neck.

Before the injury, Donnell had 29 receptions for 223 yards and two touchdowns last season.
