Carolina Panhters quarterback Cam Newton says he let people down with his post-Super Bowl news conference, reports ESPN’s David Newton.

After his team lost Super Bowl 50 to the Denver Broncos, Newton dodged reporters’ questions before walking out of his post-game press conference.

“The truth is, I represent something way bigger than myself,” Newton told Ebony magazine. “I’m doing it for [my fans and family] and I felt like I let them down.”

Newton was sacked six times, fumbled twice and threw an interception in the game. He finished 18 of 41 passing for 265 yards with no touchdowns.

“I just wasn’t ready to talk,” Newton added. “Was I mad? Hell, yeah! But there could have been a better way to control it, and that’s why I think having more time would have helped.”
