Detroit Lions running back Ameer Abdullah underwent shoulder surgery and may miss the remainder of off-season workouts, reports the Detroit Free Press’s Dave Birkett.
Abdullah, who had surgery in January on a torn labrum in his shoulder, led the Lions in rushing last season with 597 yards. He was also the NFL’s kickoff return yards leader in his rookie campaign. He injured his shoulder in a December win over the New Orleans Saints.
“You know I don’t talk about injuries and all that stuff, and those kind of details,” Lions coach Jim Caldwell told reporters Thursday. “But he had a procedure and he’s recovering nicely.”

Abdullah, a second-round selection out of Nebraska in the 2015 draft, is expected to start for Detroit in 2016.
