Free-agent quarterback Johnny Manziel has been suspended four games for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy, reports TMZ Sports.

Fox Sports’s Mike Garafolo confirmed the news.

Manziel will be forced to sit out the first four games of the 2016 season. If he signs with a team in Week 5, he would be eligible to play immediately.

Manziel’s NFL future, regardless of the suspension, is up in the air after an off-season filled with numerous issues.

Manziel is currently awaiting trial for misdemeanor assault after an altercation with his then-girlfriend in January. The former first-round pick has also been spotted partying on multiple occasions despite entering rehab last year.

Earlier this month, Manziel’s father described his son as a “druggie.” Manziel’s lawyer also accidentally revealed the quarterback had spent over $1,000 on drug paraphernalia shortly after a car accident.
