Report: NFL to investigate Aldon Smith video

The NFL plans to investigate whether Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith violated protocol for a player seeking to gain reinstatement to the league after a substance abuse suspension, according to ESPN.com's Ed Werder.
A video, which was posted and archived on Smith's Periscope account, shows a man and woman talking about a hand-rolled cigarette. The incident would be a violation of the league's requirement that a suspended player abstained from any substances abuse during their suspension.
In the video, the woman says that the man “shouldn't even be posting that” and he responds by saying that “They don't know it's me. It's not like I put ‘Aldon Smith.’’
Smith denied the allegations on Twitter.

He is currently serving a year-long suspension and would be eligible to apply for reinstatement in September. Last November, Smith was handed down the suspension after he was involved in an incident on Aug. 7, 2015 in which he was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, driving under the influence and vandalism.
Smith was previously suspended nine games in 2014 for violations of the league’s substance abuse and personal conduct policies. He also missed five games in 2013 after voluntarily entering a rehabilitation facility.
Smith is coming off a season in which he posted 3.5 sacks in nine games.
