The Baltimore Ravens have waived running back Trent Richardson and signed wide receiver Chuck Jacobs, the team announced Tuesday.

Richardson, 26, recently underwent arthroscopic knee surgery. Before that surgery, Richardson also sustained a hamstring injury, prompting him to sit out for off-season practices.

His stint in Baltimore comes to an end after just three months.

The decision to cut Richardson follows his idle 2015 season, when the Raiders cut him before the regular season began. Before landing in Oakland, Richardson spent two seasons apiece with the Browns and Colts, respectively.

The Browns picked Richardson with the No. 3 pick of the 2012 NFL draft. After a strong rookie season, when he rushed for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns, Richardson has rushed for 1,082 yards over the last three seasons combined.

In a corresponding move, Jacobs will fill Richardson’s void on the roster. The wide receiver was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Jacobs, 26, has been with the Ravens organization since the fall of 2015, and has since spent time intermittently with the team’s practice squad.

The Ravens will play the Panthers in a preseason game on Aug. 11, and will then open up the regular season against the Bills on Sept. 11.
