Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will miss Thursday’s preseason NFL game against the Chicago Bears after reportedly cutting his thumb with a pair of scissors.

According to CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran, the New England QB was sent home after slicing his right thumb while trying to pry something from the bottom of his cleat.

He was slated to start the game, as per Jeff Howe of The Boston Herald. He missed the team’s first preseason game to attend a family member’s memorial service. Brady is suspended for the first four games of the regular season as a penalty for Deflategate.

The Patriots are also expected to be without tight end Rob Gronkowski and receiver Julian Edelman on Thursday.

New England will open its regular season on Sept. 11 against the Cardinals, with Jimmy Garoppolo expected to start at quarterback.
