Browns release linebacker Armonty Bryant as suspension ends

CLEVELAND (AP) The Browns have waived linebacker Armonty Bryant on the first day he was eligible to return from a suspension.

Bryant had been serving a four-game NFL suspension for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing drugs. The 26-year-old recently pleaded guilty to a charge of attempted drug possession.

He was also arrested last Christmas along with former Browns defensive back De'Ante Saunders following a traffic stop.

A seventh-round draft pick in 2013, Bryant had 5.5 sacks last season while making two starts and playing in 14 games. He recorded 71 career tackles and 8.5 sacks in 31 games for Cleveland.

Bryant's release came as the winless Browns are attempting to change their culture under first-year coach.

Suspended wide receiver Josh Gordon had been eligible to return from his suspension on Monday, but the 25-year-old entered rehab last week and is expected to be released in the future.
