Jerry Jones: Tony Romo will be Dak Prescott's backup next week
Monday November 14th, 2016

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones says that Tony Romo will be active and serve as the team's backup quarterback against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

Romo has not been active this season after sustaining a compression fracture in his back during the preseason. Romo has been practicing for the past two weeks.

"We are going to let the decision make itself," Jones said. "Dak has got a hot hand, and we're going to go with it."

Rookie Dak Prescott has been solid in Romo's absence, completing 67% of his passes for 2,339 yards with 14 touchdowns and only two interceptions. The Cowboys have the NFL's best record after their 35–30 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, their eighth consecutive win.

Against Pittsburgh, Prescott completed 22 of 32 passes for 319 yards with two touchdown passes.

Jones said he didn't think the situation would be awkward for Romo.

"And I don’t think it will be awkward for anyone at all. I’m just glad to have him out there, want him out there if in case he’s needed, ready to roll," Jones said

In the last 10 seasons, Romo has been a backup only one time—in 2008.

"There's no fragileness because Tony is on board to ride this thing out as well," Jones said. "Absolutely. Absolutely. Let me be real clear on that. There is no equivocation. He is totally committed to doing the very best thing to win the game."
