For the first time this season, the San Francisco 49ers found out what it was like to lose in 2019. After such a stellar start to the season going 8-0, it was only a matter time that the 49ers dropped a game.

However, losing to division rival Seattle Seahawks is the last thing they wanted because now the Seahawks are only a half game back of the 49ers. The NFC west is going to be a tight race to the finish. So what happened during the Monday night game against the Seahawks?

Some players answered the call, while others failed to step up. With that said, here is your three risers and fallers in this weeks 49ers stock report.

Risers

Dre Greenlaw

The loss of Kwon Alexander for the season was going to be a blow to the 49ers’ defense. However, after the performance rookie linebacker Dre Greenlaw had in week 10, he has softened the blow. Greenlaw’s stock has definitely risen from Monday night. It hardly felt like the defense of the 49ers skipped a beat with him in there. The guy was flying around all game long, which is what you want from your linebacker.

Someone who is looking to make the big play or lay a hat on someone. The 49ers were hyped about Greenlaw during the preseason and so far after one start we understand why. He did exceptionally well in pass coverage and had the potential game clincher in overtime when he picked off Russell Wilson in the red-zone.

Wilson has taken such great care of the football this season since that interception was only his second ofnthe srwaon. It just shows how difficult it is to nab a pass from him and the rookie Greenlaw can now say he got one on the MVP leader. If he can continue this performance, then the 49ers’ defense will remain in dominant form.

Deebo Samuel

Last week against the Arizona Cardinals, Deebo Samuel had an easy touchdown pass slip through his hands. He needed to make up for it in the next game against the Seahawks and boy did he ever. Samuel had his best game of the season by bringing in eight receptions for a career-high 112 yards, which marked his first career 100 yard game.

His best game as 49ers came in clutch when Emmanuel Sanders went out early with a rib injury. The entire wide receiver group were killing offensive drives by themselves. Even Samuel at one point dropped an easy first down conversion. However, without his contributions the 49ers likely don’t keep it close.

Just watching his aggression once he got the ball in his hands is something the 49ers haven’t seen from a wideout since Anquan Boldin. Samuel isn’t even built like Boldin, yet he plays like a truck. This is now a game for him to build on heading into Sunday’s matchup with Arizona. Samuel’s stock has risen after falling in week nine.

Weston Richburg

In the 10 snaps that center Weston Richburg was missing in action for, the offensive line of the 49ers was in total shambles. They had zero direction and were operating as if they were discombobulated. Had Richburg not returned to the game, the game would’ve gotten out of hand.

The impact that Richburg has on that offensive line gets widely overlooked. He is the one that pulls everyone together and ensures the ideal protection is situated. Not to mention how stellar his blocking has been in both facets of the offense. It was great news to hear that his injury was just minor.

Without him, the offensive line woes would re-emerge, which just catapults his stock. With both starting offensive tackles out over the last month, the 49ers did not struggle anywhere near as bad as the 10 snaps Richburg missed. It just goes to show how valuable he is to the offense.

Fallers

Kendrick Bourne

Had Kendrick Bourne kept up his performance from the touchdown he scored, then he most likely is on the risers part of this stock report. However, he once again demonstrated how inconsistent he is. You just never know with Bourne. He can explode and make a clutch catch on one end.

On the other end, he drops a pass on the simplest attempts. As clutch as he came in a couple of moments against the Seahawks, he turned right back and had killer drops. If Bourne catches half of the drops he on Monday night, he puts the 49ers in a much better position to comeback.

Bourne constantly takes five steps forward and 10 steps back. You can see he has the talent and could be a solid contributor if he can become consistent. Unfortunately, this is who he is. A roller coaster ride of a player who is up and down.

Dante Pettis

In a game that saw Emmanuel Sanders exit early, it was the perfect time for Dante Pettis to step up and help out his team. However, Pettis made no sort of impact on Monday night. His underperforming season has been unacceptable.

It’s even started to wane on Kyle Shanahan who said on a conference call with local media, “He’s had his opportunities. The more he doesn’t take advantage of his opportunities, the less opportunities he gets.” Pettis has not stepped up in any fashion this season. His performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week three was the closest he had to stepping up, but outside of that he’s been a ghost.

At this point, what good is Pettis for? He plays extremely soft, unlike his teammate Deebo Samuel. He can run solid routes but can’t do much once the ball is in his hands. It doesn’t behoove Shanahan to dial anything up for Pettis. Richie James Jr. should finally see some playing time at reciever. He cannot be much worse than Pettis at this juncture.

Joe Staley/Mike McGlinchey

In their first action back since suffering their injuries, starting offensive tackles Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey were embarrassed on Monday night. They allowed one of the worst pass rushing groups in the league to outright dominate them throughout the game. There was never a drop off when their backups Justin Skule and Daniel Brunskill filled in.

I understand that it was their first game back after so long. Rust and conditioning definitely plays a factor, which is what I mentioned in my “Players to Watch” article in week 10. However, just the way they were constantly getting beat and allowing Jimmy Garropolo to get hammered all game was sickening.

It makes you wonder if the 49ers brought these guys back a bit too soon. Regardless, McGlinchey will look to bounce back on Sunday against the Cardinals while Staley is likely out for that game after suffering a fracture to his finger
