Troy Polamalu lasted less than one quarter in his return to the Steelers' lineup Sunday, exiting after reinjuring his troublesome calf on a non-contact play against Philadelphia.
Polamalu was running toward the Eagles' sideline in coverage, then started hopping on one leg as he turned back to his own bench. He did not go to the locker room, but instead sat on the Steelers' sideline with a large wrap on his right calf -- the same calf that kept Polamalu out of the lineup for the past two games. Polamalu is done for the day, according to the FOX crew working the game.
The Polamalu news wasn't the only injury setback for Pittsburgh on Sunday, either. Outside linebacker LaMarr Woodley was questionable to return as of halftime after hurting his hamstring. Woodley has had hamstring issues before -- he missed several games during the 2011 season with a similar injury.
Pittsburgh had only this week begun to piece its defense back together. Polamalu and James Harrison, among others, had missed multiple games this season due to injury, part of why Pittsburgh is off to a 1-2 start. Harrison was making his season debut in Week 5,while Polamalu was back in the lineup for the first time since Week 1.
The Steelers will have to piece things together on defense again Sunday (and possibly beyond).
