Andy Reid stuns Giants with onside kick in last game with Eagles
After 14 years as head coach of the same team, how did Andy Reid open what is likely his final game? With an onside kick, of course.
Reid pulled that call off successfully Sunday, as the Eagles stunned the playoff-hungry Giants to open their Week 17 matchup. Kicker Alex Henery bounced an onside kick which New York's Justin Tryon could not handle. Philadelphia's Brandon Hughes pounced on the loose football.
Per The Philadelphia Enquirer's Jeff McLane, that's the fifth time in the Andy Reid Era that the Eagles have opened a game with an onside kick. Of course, true to form for this year's team, the Eagles could not convert the break into points -- Michael Vick, back in the starting lineup at QB, ended the ensuing drive by throwing an interception.
