Pittsburgh Steelers second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams has had some problematic performances since he moved this season from the right side to the left -- he has already given up four sacks and has appeared outmatched too much of the time. To try to stem the tide, the Steelers have reportedly made a trade with the Arizona Cardinals for left tackle Levi Brown.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reported on Wednesday morning that the two teams were hammering out the particulars, and Pro Football Talk heard from a league source that the deal is done, pending a physical. Terms of the trade have not been disclosed.

According to salary cap expert Brian McIntyre, the Steelers are $1.9 million under the cap this season, and Brown is due $3.6 million in base salary for the remainder of the season. Brown signed a five-year, $30-million contract extension in 2012. He was the team's first-round draft pick in 2007.

This may be addition by subtraction for the Steelers. In 2013, Brown has allowed 18 total pressures (four sacks, six hits and eight hurries) in 164 snaps, while Adams has allowed 23 pressures (four sacks, six hurries, 13 hits).

Cardinals head coach Bruce Arians, who was Pittsburgh's offensive coordinator from 2007 through '11, called his offense "putrid" after the Cards' 13-10 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last Sunday.
