QB Aaron Rodgers will miss Sunday's game, his seventh straight out of the lineup after injuring his collarbone against the Bears on Nov. 4, Packers coach Mike McCarthy announced Friday.

"He's not medically cleared," McCarthy said. "As an organization, we don't feel this is the right time for him to play."

Rodgers participated in practice on a limited basis this week, though he mostly worked with the backup units as Matt Flynn took first-team snaps. Flynn will start in Week 16 against the Steelers.

"I thought Aaron Rodgers did everything he could possibly do," McCarthy said. "The man attacked the rehab aspect of it, did more in the weight room, did really good things in practice. Obviously, this is an organization decision."

Flynn is coming off a four-touchdown performance in rallying the Packers from 23 points down to a thrilling win in Dallas. He may need another huge performance Sunday because the Packers remain in must-win mode. Green Bay would be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss or tie and a Chicago win.

Rodgers stressed this week that he felt closer to returning, then told the media on Thursday: "I have a good sense of what's going to happen," referencing his updated medical checks.

Meanwhile, McCarthy said Thursday that Rodgers "looked very good at practice. I would state him ready to play." The Packers' coach stressed, though, that the team was "going through the process" with regards to Rodgers' recovery.

The Packers close the regular season next week in Chicago. It's possible that game could be for the NFC North title, pending Sunday's results.

Whether Rodgers gets the go-ahead then will not be revealed until sometime after Week 16 concludes.
