2014 NFL draft rumors: Draft guru believes Taylor Lewan worthy of No. 1 pick

2014 NFL draft rumors: Taylor Lewan worthy of No. 1 pick, says draft guru Michigan's Taylor Lewan impressed at the scouting combine, and could be on the rise. (Charlie Neibergall/AP)

As the 2014 NFL draft approaches, teams around the league are organizing their draft boards and trying to determine who will be worthy of their first-round pick. No one has a more difficult decision than the Houston Texans, who hold the No. 1 overall pick.

According to NFL.com's Gil Brandt, there are nine players who should be in the discussion for the No. 1 overall pick.

Brandt lists UCF quarterback Blake Bortles, Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney, Michigan offensive tackle Taylor Lewan, Buffalo pass rusher Khalil Mack, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Auburn offensive tackle Greg Robinson, Texas A&M offensive tackle Jake Matthews and Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins as the players deserving of the spot.

While the nine players listed are all worthy of top 15 selections, it is a bit surprising to see Taylor Lewan on the list.

Many view Lewan as the No. 3 ranked offensive tackle and it would be a shock to see him taken at the top of the draft. Of course, Lewan did put together an impressive performance at the NFL scouting combine, so he could be a riser in the 2014 class.

The most likely selections for Houston are Bortles, Manziel, Bridgewater, Clowney and Mack.

As long as the team doesn't address one of those major positions of need during free agency, expect Houston to target a pass rusher and quarterback early.
