The Denver Broncos have been opening up the checkbooks to bring in big name free agents like DeMarcus Ware and Aqib Talib, but they were also willing to do the same to bring back their own players on the open market.

Before turning their attention to signing Talib, the Broncos reportedly offered a six-year, $54 million deal for cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie.

ProFootballTalk reports that Rodgers-Cromartie turned down the offer before the Broncos turned their attention to Darrelle Revis. Denver quickly learned that Revis' contract demands were too high for their liking and then it pursued and locked up Talib.

Unfortunately for Rodgers-Cromartie, he may end up regretting turning down the big deal from Denver.

With the big spending in free agency virtually over, Rodgers-Cromartie is the odd man out as Talib took his spot with the Broncos and Revis landed with the New England Patriots. He may also regret his talks of retirement during Super Bowl week that may have scared off some potential suitors.

Rodgers-Cromartie will now wait for the secondary cornerback market to pick up before signing with a team that will pay him substantially less than the Broncos offered. The New York Jets are believed to be interested.
