Report: Texans 'pushing to trade' QB Schaub; Browns, Raiders interested

The Houston Texans are expected to part ways with quarterback Matt Schaub at some point in the offseason, but first they will make one final push to find a trade partner willing to give up some compensation in exchange for the signal-caller who turned in to a pick-six machine and was benched in favor of an undrafted free agent last season.

The Texans are "pushing to trade" Schaub, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported, listing the Cleveland Browns and Oakland Raiders as two teams who have shown interest.

Both the Raiders and Browns have been linked to some of the top quarterbacks in the 2014 NFL draft class but could opt for someone with NFL experience, albeit of mixed success, instead.

The problem with acquiring Schaub is that the teams would need to part ways with a draft pick and pay his salary, which makes less financial sense than bringing in a rookie to play the position.

Schaub is set to have a $10 million base salary in 2014, so the best option for the Browns and Raiders, if they prefer him to taking their chances with a rookie, may be to wait till the Texans release him.
