Terrelle Pryor's future with the Raiders presented as murky at best heading into this offseason, and that was before Oakland dealt for Houston QB Matt Schaub. With Schaub now on the depth chart and the Raiders potentially eying another quarterback in the draft, Pryor has asked for his release, according to NFL.com's Marc Sessler, via Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie.
McKenzie, at the NFL meetings in Orlando, also said Pryor's request could be granted. "McKenzie suggested Pryor could be traded or released soon," Tim Kawakami of the Mercury News tweeted.
The 24-year-old Pryor pushed his way into the starting lineup, almost by default, to open the 2013 season. He stayed there for eight games before a knee injury led to him being Wally Pipp'd by Matt McGloin, who took over the No. 1 job and did not cede it back until Week 17. Pryor finished the season with a 3-6 mark in his nine starts and a QB rating of 69.1 (1,798 yards passing, seven TDs, 11 INTs, 576 yards rushing).

Despite having both Pryor and McGloin slated to return in 2014, the Raiders clearly wanted to find an upgrade at that position. Schaub provides at least a minor one, with another chance to add a quarterback using the fifth pick in the draft.
Finding a trade market for Pryor will be a yeoman's task for McKenzie, though Pryor is owed little more than $700,000 for 2014 and may still have some perceivable upside. There is also the possibility that another team attempts to swing Pryor out to a tight end spot, where it may be able to take advantage of his athletic, 6-foot-4 frame.
Pryor remains a major project, even as he enters into his fourth NFL season. He admitted prior to the '13 season that he had begun revamping his mechanics as a QB.
“I never really knew how to throw a football before,” Pryor said, according to the Bay Area News Group. “It’s coming along. I’m getting way better. I probably missed four or five throws out of 80, 85 throws today. I might ice my arm as a precaution tonight, but it feels great.”
In addition to Schaub and McGloin, the Raiders also have Trent Edwards on their roster. He was signed to a futures contract in January.
