Titans expected to make decision on Chris Johnson this week; Jets reportedly interested

This week, the Tennessee Titans are expected to make a decision on running back Chris Johnson's future with the team, and it appears likely he will be released. The Titans have been shopping Johnson in recent weeks and are holding out hope that someone will make a last-minute trade offer, but it appears that most of the potential suitors are happy to sit pat, waiting for the Titans to cut their running back.

One of the teams expected to have heavy interest in Johnson is the New York Jets, who appear to be saving up their money for when the former 2,000-yard rusher becomes available.

The team was initially believed to be a logical landing spot for recently released wide receiver DeSean Jackson, but it has yet to show interest and it could be because it is hoping to keep its funds for a run at Johnson. At least that is what Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network suggests.

If Johnson were to join the Jets, he would be a perfect complement to Chris Ivory, a bruising, between-the-tackles runner who they picked up in the offseason just a year ago.

Johnson has shown a declining skillset in recent years, but he still has the speed and home-run ability that the Jets offense has lacked. Johnson and Ivory would be a solid one-two punch for an offense that entered free agency desperate to add weapons.
