Philadelphia Eagles reportedly inquired about C.J. Spiller trade

Although the Philadelphia Eagles eventually ended up trading for Darren Sproles, before doing so they apparently had their eyes on running back C.J. Spiller.

According to CSNPhilly.com, the Eagles contacted the Buffalo Bills to gauge their interest in trading Spiller, but no offer was ever made as Buffalo informed Philadelphia that it wasn't interested in moving the former Pro Bowl running back.

That led the Eagles to trade for the New Orleans Saints' Sproles, though it appears Spiller was Philadelphia's top choice.

Spiller and LeSean McCoy would have formed one of the best tandems in the league, especially in regards to pass catching.

Adding Spiller would have also given the Eagles a high quality return man, though such a trade was nothing more than a pipe dream as the Bills understandably weren't interested in moving the Clemson product.

The Eagles of course didn't do so bad, only giving up a fifth-round draft pick in exchange for Sproles who, while not as talented as Spiller, will still fill a variety of roles for the team when healthy.
