With an eye on keeping their Super Bowl winning roster intact, the Seattle Seahawks are in the midst of contract extension talks with Richard Sherman that could make him the highest paid defensive back in the NFL.

According to Jason La Canfora, the Seahawks and Sherman have made "considerable" progress on a deal and are "hopeful" that the two sides can find middle ground prior to the NFL draft (May 8-10).

While no official numbers have been reported, La Canfora suggests that such a deal will likely be north of $13 million dollars annually, though he stops short of speculating on how high the dollar amount will go. Darrelle Revis is currently the highest paid corner, making $12M in his first year with the Patriots.

Signing Sherman to an extension is likely the first of many moves for the Seahawks. Seattle has multiple players up for extensions/new contracts in the somewhat near future (Russell Wilson, Earl Thomas, chief among them).

The former fifth-round pick out of Stanford is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is scheduled to make $1.4M next season.

A shutdown corner, Sherman doesn't often see the ball thrown his way, but produces regardless, posting 18 pass deflections and eight interceptions during the 2013 season.
