2014 NFL draft: Tampa Bay Buccaneers considering Johnny Manziel at No. 7

(Erich Schlegel for SI) Johnny Manziel will find out on May 8 which NFL team he'll be suiting up for in 2014. (Erich Schlegel for SI)

When the 2014 NFL Draft kicks off at Radio City Music Hall in two weeks, there will be plenty of attention on one of the most controversial prospects in this year's draft class -- Johnny Manziel.

The former Texas A&M quarterback is expected to be selected in the top 10 picks, and plenty of teams have been showing interest in him. The latest to jump into the mix is No. 7 Tampa Bay, which reportedly has Manziel on its short list of targets, according to ESPN.com's Vaughn McClure.

The Cleveland Browns, who hold the No. 4 pick, are also believed to be interested in Manziel, so the Buccaneers may have to consider a trade up if they want to improve their chances of landing him.

New Buccaneers head coach Lovie Smith is on record in saying that veteran Josh McCown is the team's starting quarterback, which gives the Bucs time to mold Manziel's game if they choose him. Right now, outside of McCown, Tampa Bay has last year's third-round pick, Mike Glennon, and the Philadelphia Eagles 2010 fourth-round pick, Mike Kafka, as its backup quarterbacks.

Manziel ranks 13th on SI.com's big board, which took into account that he "showed specific and impressive improvements at his pro day, which proved that he’s been working hard in the offseason, and taking what performance coaches George Whitfield and Kevin O’Connell are teaching him very seriously. He clearly has the desire to improve, and seems to have an inherent chip on his shoulder when doubted. Despite all the talk about his personality, Manziel appears to be a born on-field leader who can rally his teammates. With words and actions, he seems to inspire belief."
