Teddy Bridgewater: Put on the game tape, it speaks volumes

Teddy Bridgewater ahead of 2014 NFL draft: Put on the game tape, it speaks volumes 'I think those things (seen on my game tape) outweigh the pro day,' Teddy Bridgewater said. (Al Tielemans/SI)

No prospect in the 2014 NFL draft class has watched his stock plummet as rapidly as Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Following Bridgewater's poor showing at his pro day, critics began to surface from every nook and cranny (well-respected draft analyst Mike Mayock even said that he "would be surprised if [Bridgewater] goes in the first round"), but Bridgewater doesn't seem to have any doubts about his own skillset.

Bridgewater acknowledges that his pro day was not as great as it could have been, but he also encourages talent evaluators to take the time to look at his game film, where his talent is on full display on a meaningful stage.

“Put on the game tape. The game tape speaks volumes because I’m in live action, I’m out there making reads, going through progressions, redirection protection, signaling hot routes, getting the offense in and out of the right play," Bridgewater said on ESPN, via Pro Football Talk. "Looking at those things, I think those things outweigh the pro day."

On tape, there isn't nearly as much to criticize when it comes to Bridgewater's game.

He has all of the talent that it takes to succeed at the next level. However, "anonymous scouts" have been pointing to his smaller frame as one reason to shy away from him.

All of this could ultimately play into his favor. If Bridgewater slides to the second half of Round 1 or beyond, he will have less pressure when he enters the league and could find himself in a much better situation than if he were to be a top-five pick, forced to start right away.
