Dallas Cowboys officially sign injury-plagued running back Ryan Williams
Just three years after the Arizona Cardinals drafted Ryan Williams with the 38th pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the running back was without a job, released last week after injuries limited him to just five games in three years with the Cardinals.
Williams landed on his feet, officially signing a contract with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday.
That deal was officially announced after Williams impressed Dallas coaches during his weekend workout, leading to reports that a deal was in the works. Undrafted rookie Glasco Martin was released in a corresponding move to open a roster spot.
Regardless, despite his solid workout, Williams will have to prove he's healthy if he's to earn a spot on Dallas' 53-man roster, as knee problems have plagued the 24-year-old's short NFL career.
The former second round pick was a "healthy" scratch in all 16 games for the Cardinals last season, despite the team employing a running back carousel.Williams will need to shake the rust off but still brings with him a high ceiling if he can stay on the field. Contractual details of his signing were not released.
