When San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd suffered a major neck injury last September against the Philadelphia Eagles, concerns weren't over Floyd's ability to play football again but whether he would be able to have a normal life beyond the game.

It's been a slow road to recovery for the veteran wideout, but Floyd will not only emerge from the scare completely healthy moving forward -- he's also expected to be cleared to play this season, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune.

"The doc said … I'm at risk just like anybody else," Floyd said Monday. "There's not really a worry. … I'm feeling good. I think I feel like my old self."

A slow-motion replay showed the terrifying hyper-extension of Floyd's neck as he was sandwiched between two defenders while attempting to make a catch. Floyd was carted off the field and taken to a local hospital.

The Chargers placed Floyd on the injured reserve list, and he sat out for the remainder of the season. The Union-Tribune story describes him calling out plays before the snap while watching games from home.

Floyd has been jogging and lifting weights in recent weeks, though his activity level is expected to ramp up in the near future.
