The Josh Gordon predicament in Cleveland got a little clearer this week with news that the star receiver is already in Stage 3 of the NFL's substance-abuse program.

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer revealed that bit of information Tuesday during a segment with Mike Florio on Pro Football Talk Live. A player enters Stage 3 after multiple violations of the substance abuse policy and remains in the stage for the rest of their career. The current policy calls for a Stage 3 player to earn a minimum ban of one year for a violation.

Gordon was suspended for the first two games of last season and found himself in trouble again this offseason when he submitted a urine sample that returned a positive test for marijuana.

When on the field, Gordon is one of the most talented wide receivers in the entire league, but his inability to stay out of trouble off the field will hurt any value that he has if the Browns try to trade him.

As it currently stands, Gordon is now always one misstep away from being suspended for an entire year and potentially even being banned by the NFL.

Browns fans have to hope that the latest suspension will serve as his final wake up call.
