Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph has been cleared by the team’s independent neurologist and is no longer in the concussion protocol.

The news is coming shortly off the heels of head coach Mike Tomlin telling the media on Wednesday that Mason Rudolph will be the Steelers’ starting quarterback when he clears the concussion protocol.

“That guy is our quarterback when he clears the protocol,” Mike Tomlin said. “It’s as simple as that.”

Rudolph had been practicing in a limited capacity throughout last week’s preparation for the Chargers, even while in the protocol.

Now that Rudolph is cleared, any speculation of who would be under center for the Steelers when they host Miami is put to bed. Mike Tomlin’s statement was clear.

“I appreciate the efforts of Duck [Devlin Hodges], but as soon as he’s ready to go, he’s ready to go.”

The Steelers don’t work again until Monday, when they begin their preparation for Miami.
