Team USA names Whitney and Gleason as replacements

(AP) -- USA Hockey has chosen Ryan Whitney of the Anaheim Ducks and Tim Gleason of Carolina to replace injured defensemen Paul Martin and Mike Komisarek in the Vancouver Olympics.

Whitney and Gleason both participated in the team's Olympic orientation camp last summer. The withdrew from the team earlier this week. The moves Thursday were made less than two weeks before the United States' opening game against Switzerland on Feb. 16.

Final rosters are due one day earlier when the U.S. team will conduct its only pre-Olympics practice.

Martin of the New Jersey Devils was already out with a broken forearm when the team was first announced on Jan. 1. Toronto's Komisarek has an injured shoulder and will have surgery that will sideline him for the season.
