Koivu broke his right ankle Jan. 4 when he was hit by a puck and had surgery to accelerate the recovery.
The captain and first-line center has resumed skating, but Wild coach Mike Yeo told reporters after practice Monday that Koivu's availability for the last two games before the Olympics break was "highly in doubt." Koivu could still play in the Winter Games, however, if he's cleared in time by the team's medical staff. Finland's opener is Feb. 13 against Austria.
The Wild host Tampa Bay Tuesday and Nashville Thursday before the NHL hiatus begins. The Wild's regular season schedule resumes Feb. 27.
Ducks recall D Vatanen, put Mark Fistric on IR
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- The Anaheim Ducks have recalled defenseman Sami Vatanen from their AHL affiliate in Norfolk.
The NHL-leading Ducks also put defenseman Mark Fistric on injured reserve Monday.
Vatanen has 14 points in 39 games for Anaheim this season, and his six goals are tied for the team lead among defensemen. The Finnish Olympic team selection was sent back to Norfolk on Jan. 21 when Luca Sbisa returned to Anaheim's lineup.
Fistric incurred a lower-body injury in Saturday's loss to Dallas. He has five points in 29 games this season.
